YORK HOLIDAY LET ....
COME TO ST JOHN STREET, YORK -

Stay in an attractive period town house close to York Minster.

LOCATION

St John Street is a quiet Victorian street off Lord Mayor's Walk which itself runs beside the city walls.  York Minster is five minutes' walk away and can be seen from the street.   Indeed most of the city's many and varied attractions are within walking distance of the house -- museums (including the Railway Museum) castle, ancient churches, the river with its pleasure boat trips, the Wheel, alleyways, excellent shops, market, pubs, cafes, restaurants and two theatres.  If you want to go further afield there is plenty to see and do: Castle Howard and several other stately homes, the coast at Scarborough or Whitby, the Yorkshire Dales. the North Yorks Moors and the Wolds, as well as Leeds, Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon.

ACCOMMODATION
The house sleeps seven people in four bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin, 1 single).  A cot is also available.  One double room, the twin room and the small single room are on the first floor and the second double bedroom is on the second floor and has been converted from the original attic and maid's room.
The bedrooms have chests of drawers, chairs, bedside tables and lamps, and the larger bedrooms have wardrobes.  In the others there is space for hanging clothes.  Duvets are provided as are towels and linen for at no extra charge.  The house is now "No Smoking" throughout.

The living room is comfortable and spacious .  It has a bay window with window seat, the original fireplace (now with a 'living flame' gas fire) and is decorated and furnished in traditional style.  There is a television, video, some board games and plenty of books to read.

The dining room seats six people and also has an antique grandfather clock (not working I'm afraid--a project for the future).  The room is at the back of the house and looks out onto the enclosed climber-filled backyard, where in summer you may like to sit out for coffee or drinks.

There is a  bathroom on the first floor which includes a shower, toilet and hand basin, as well as a large shower room on the second floor with a toilet and hand basin.  The kitchen includes a gas cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machine, and there is plenty of china and cutlery.

A HOUSE FOR ALL SEASONS
Events and entertainment continue in York throughout the year so if you prefer it a bit quieter come and visit outside the summer season.  Towards December York begins to take on an old-fashioned Christmas card appearance and seasonal events are held.  It is also a delightful place to do Christmas shopping--there are many tempting shops such as Mulberry Hall for fine china and glass, Barnitts the ironmonger that sells everything, new and secondhand bookshops, and boutiques and clothes shops to suit every purse.  Have a break at Betty's famous cafe and restaurant which is a must for almost every visitor to York.  Don't forget to book in advance if you want to join in traditional fun at the Theatre Royal's nationally renowned pantomime.
The house is conveniently placed being only a few minutes from the centre and is suitable for a winter stay--there is central heating throughout the house, two gas fires and extra bedding if you want it.

EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY
We live and work away from York so the house is for our eventual retirement.  In the meantime we have done our best to make it homely and comfortable.  It is an ideal place to explore the delights of York and is a real family house much loved by us.  We would much rather have the house used and enjoyed than let it just in the summer for very high prices.  Our prices are very reasonable and range from £350 per week off season to £595 at the height of the season.  We also offer three and four night short breaks throughout the year. Assuming full occupancy,  these prices equate to just over £7 per person per night to around £14--that's around what  it would cost you to park your car all day in a city centre car park!  Incidentally we provide you with a Car Parking permit for the street at no extra charge.
